SKILD paving the way for inclusion in Jordan's educational system

Raising awareness on the importance of inclusion and building the capacities of educators to better serve learners with special needs is essential to reach reforms in the educational sector on a national and regional level. After taking part in launching the national day for children with learning differences in Jordan, SKILD set a continuous track of spreading awareness regionally as a means of leadership development to prepare educators for the inclusion of struggling learners in regular classrooms.

A team from SKILD flew to Amman to train 25 educators from private schools upon an invitation from the Queen Rania Academy. The three-day workshop was theoretical and practical which allowed educators to implement the strategies they were given in their classrooms and come back to the SKILD team with inquiries. The educators were very enthusiastic about the results of the screening tools they implemented. The workshop started with demonstrating screening tools to detect Dyslexia and proceeded to provide educators with methods of differentiated learning to be able to modify teaching methods to reach all learners. By the end of the workshop, the SKILD team also illustrated the cycle of investigating a learner’s difficulty starting from observations and interventions to appropriate referral to a specialist.

Upon another invitation by Queen Rania’s Academy, SKILD collaborated with Edraak, the Academy’s online platform, to provide a free online course, which focuses on inclusion strategies and differentiated learning. This four-week course, “Introduction to Overcome Learning Difficulties” targets parents, educators, and individuals with learning difficulties themselves.
